Fancy That! As the Showroom and Shoppe Come Together

As you enter what will be the Reading Room,
you will see this teapot (actually, it's a coffee pot!) lamp.

Cups-n-Cups
Teacups are getting unpacked and ready to rent!

Another shelf. You can just see a tiny bit of blush pink paint (lower right corner of pic).
That's the color we're going to paint the two small storage rooms that are off of the main room
(it will be fun to walk through and look at the cups,
and the paint color will give everything a warm glow:))

The Front of the Showroom in the daylight.

Notice the "girls" (a.k.a. our floral chintz teapots).
They found a place of prominence on the front window sill.

Cherished items are here...for now!

Did we mention that we rent these vintage tray tables?
We used them for our own Christmas Celebration.
They really came in handy, and got lots of compliments.
This is what we're calling the 'Reading Room'
it's where you'll be able to come to sit back, relax
and peruse some of our fun books on Afternoon Tea and etiquette.

Thanks for stopping by!
More photos soon.

If you want to be added to the list for the Grand Opening in the Spring 2010,
just let us know! We'll add you to the list and send you reminder as the date gets closer!

pink christmas

We've been so busy moving into the new space
that I've completely forgotten to get on here to update!
I'll take better pics later
(haven't yet located the box containing my digital camera!)
but snapped these few with my iPhone... much prettier in person!

I won't leave it there too long, because I don't want it to be in the sun, but for now,
my wedding dress makes a nice prop in the window of our new space, don't you think?

Pink Coffee Pot?

I thought I'd pick up a new coffee pot for hubby for the new shoppe
(thinking of calling the new space Fancy That's "Showroom and Shoppe"
since in addition to being a place to show our rentals,
we'd like to eventually have a little retail area there).
I want a cute coffee pot - what do you think of this one?

Light Sage and Frosty Pine?

I don't know about you, but I have the hardest time choosing paint colors.
What looks good on a swatch doesn't always look good in the intended space!
It usually takes me a couple of tries to get it just right.
Here are the potential colors we've picked for the interior of the new space,
(assuming everything moves ahead as we're hoping)
What do you think?
They actually look a little blue on my monitor,
but in person, there's no blue undertones...

Broken China Jewelry

Jeesh - i can't believe how long it's taken me to get back here to update!
Sorry about that, my friends! I'm really excited to tell you about this great find:

I've seen a lot of cute and crafty jewelry made using vintage china,
but it's not every day that I see elegant jewelry made in this manner.
That's why I was thrilled and amazed when I saw the gorgeous creations of
Broken China Charms on Etsy.

Check out some of my faves:
(click the picture to go directly to the item on Etsy)

If you've got a favorite teacup or plate with a chip,
why not consider having it made into a custom piece of jewelry :)

didn't I tell you they are gorgeous?!

New Additions to the Family

Thought I'd show you some more items we'll be adding to our rental line soon...

Lenox Porcelain canape plates (beautiful!):

We've also got a small amount of this chintz china, so I hope to add this to the site soon...
Think I'm going to create a section on the site just for groups/parties of 20 people or less :

sorry it's not the best shot!
(taken at the new warehouse space -
obviously we have to do something about the lighting in there!)

And what do you think of this teapot? Still on the fence about this one -
it's actually a coffee pot.
It's called "Pink Gracie" - love that name :)

Well, that's all for now:)

Fancy That's New Digs

It's been such a busy and exciting time for us @ Fancy That!
We're in the process of expanding our warehouse space a tad.
Here's a shot of the new digs... it doesn't look like much now, but just you wait :)

As soon as we get ourselves all unpacked, I'll be taking pics and adding more fab items
to the rentals on our site. Here's a sneak peak of a recent acquisition:

I am totally in love with this teal color!
These all purpose goblets are a re-issue by Indiana glass
of the famed Depression era "Madrid" patten of the 20's and 30's.
The original molds were destroyed in the 40's for the WWII scrap drive,
but original pieces were faithfully copied in the early 1980's
to produce "Recollection" pictured above.

Here's another great find - a mixed lot of vintage flatware.
Can't wait to clean these up and see what's there!

That's all for now, my dears. Hope you enjoy the pics :)

Some of the girls get a bubble bath before their next outing...

A Cup Of Glee - Weekly Newsletter - Lookie! New things!

Welcome to the Blog for Fancy That!
We happily call our blog “A Cup of Glee.”

Thank you for stopping by. Enjoy
We are back from vacation! With the last full week of Summer upon us, we are glad to be back, and blogging again on A Cup Of Glee.
All the while, we have been busy adding to the unique, and vintage inventory of Fancy That! After all, when you collect such fine things, there are never enough hours in a day to acquire! We will quickly detail a few of the new items we are offering, but first want to also give a little tease: soon Fancy That customers will be able to have their occasion catered simply by calling Fancy That for rentals. Imagine how nice it will be to have your event catered, and rent some of the finest china, all with one phone call! It will be easy for you, and perfect for your guests!

Ok, now on to the items we are so excited about.
Firstly, our new flatware we are calling “Hotel Flat Ware.” Gathering from Hotels, Restaurants, Cafés, Oceanliners & Estates throughout the world, Hotel Flatware – vintage from the Nineteen-Fifties back to pre- WWII is making a come back. In the early 1900s, England's finest hotels created unique settings by mixing flatware patterns. The look was dramatic and eclectic—a refreshing change from the standard. Fancy That is bringing this unique classic look back to life.
Fancy That’s flatware is not modern reproduction flatware: it is the genuine article. Our growing collection of flatware is a perfect example of the quality & craftsmanship that exemplified the silver industry. The patterns are mixed and include some Americana designs from the 1950s and before as well as English, French and other counties’ patterns. The wide variety of patterns range from understated Colonial, ornate Victorian and luxurious Baroque designs to more modern motifs, each reflecting artistry from years past that still complements today's most contemporary tables – the tables of your event. Some pieces are more ornate and some are simple. They may be ornamented with a monogram, heraldic crests or the name of a hotel, restaurant or café. Each piece is as unique as it is lovely. This silver plated Hotel Flat Ware IS THE PERFECT touch you have been looking for to make your guests remember the night for may months to come.

Our flatware is "vintage and found". Each piece will vary slightly from place setting to place setting. Sizes may also vary from standard American flatware – bigger spoons and heavier forks and smaller small spoons. When you rent our Hotel Flatware, please allow us to choose for you a beautiful assortment. You will be able to rent just one piece, or one hundred place settings. Using Fancy That’s Hotel Flatware will add that “zing” to your table, and make you proud once you hear the comments from each guest.

We are also thrilled to share as rental items are the jam and condiment servers. Hobnail in design, vintage in craftsmanship, these smokey-glassed treasures look great when you use the silver spoons.

Your guests will find excuses to go back to the jam again and again just to see and use the wonderful jam and condiment servers. Vintage and beautiful!

Speaking of vintage items, our new teal goblets are the perfect version of vintage-modern. As the box and adverts say from the 1980’s:
Recollection
By Indiana Glass
“Recollection glass. . . yesterday’s charm for today’s table”
Recollection . . . is a reissue of the famed Depression era Madrid pattern of the ‘20s & ‘30s. The original Madrid moulds were destroyed in the ‘40s for the war scrap drive but original pieces have been faithfully copied.”
Description:
· Color – Teal
· Size – 6 ½ inches tall
· Holds 11 oz of liquid
We have collected enough for your intimate celebration, and are collecting more and more each week. With these fine goblets as part of your tablescape, your guests will simply “oooo and awwww” over the teal, crystal-look and the delicate, yet sturdy feel.

Since we are on the subject of goblets, over the vacation period we also were able to acquire near 100 of these Austrian Crystal (over 24% leaded crystal) goblets. Mind you, they are modern goblets, but beautiful when the lights passes through them.

The last drink from one of these cups leaves your guests with a star pattern at the bottom of the glass. Just an incredible piece of glass crystal!

Lastly for this week, we are proud and happy to announce the we will be hosting guest authors and contributors on A Cup Of Glee. Last week we opened the idea of having guest authors and were overwhelmed with the response from Twitter and our Blog. Starting soon, we will be posting articles and musings by guest authors and contributors.

Please do stop by often. And tell your friends to stop by as well!

Hotel Flatware for rent from Fancy That! - Bringing the unique classic look back to life

We are so excited about a new offering we'll be adding to our rental inventory soon, that we thought we would take a quick break from vacation to announce the details: mixed flatware settings! And you guessed it, they're vintage– from the 1950's back to pre- WWII.

In the early 1900s, England's finest hotels created unique settings by mixing flatware patterns. The look was dramatic and eclectic—a refreshing change from the standard. "Hotel" flatware. Fancy That is bringing this unique classic look back to life. Rest assured…Fancy That’s flatware is not modern reproduction flatware: it is the genuine article. Our growing collection of flatware is a perfect example of the quality & craftsmanship that exemplified the silver industry. The patterns are mixed and include some Americana designs from the 1950s and before as well as English, French and other counties’ patterns.

The patterns range from understated Colonial to ornate Victorian and luxurious Baroque designs, to more modern motifs, each reflecting artistry from years past that still complement today's most well-dressed tabletops. Some pieces are more ornate and some are simple. They may be ornamented with a monogram, heraldic crests or the name of a hotel, restaurant or café. Each piece is as unique as it is lovely!

We will be taking more pictures soon and will post views for your enjoyment. Feel free to stop back soon.

A Cup Of Glee - Weekly Newsletter - Under the Big Top

Welcome to the Blog for Fancy That!
We happily call our blog “A Cup of Glee.”
Thank you for stopping by. Enjoy!

When you hear people talk about "Under the Big Top" you first think of the circus or other wonderful time under the top of a grand tent. This week, we thought we would drop a few hints about tenting for your wedding, your celebration, or just because you want to have an event out of doors.

In some of our fav links below, you will get great info about planning your tenting event, and other ideas surrounding the hows, whys, and wheres to put that tent.

Our three main hints are:

1) Cut the grass about four days before your event, and before the tent goes up. That will prevent grass staining of your shoes, the tent, your children, and anything else that may touch the grass.

2) Remember that a tent is only for protection against the sun, some wind (light winds) and light rain. If there are going to be monsoonal downpours, blustery winds, or just wild weather, have a Plan B! The tent will not only afford you much shelter, it won't be all that safe!

3) You don't have to have your chairs sink into the ground! Drake Corporation has come up with the solution: Chair Lawn Feet.

Enjoy the other links (and don't forget to stop back here after you get lost in the cyber world of tenting hints!)!!

Choosing that right tent for your event can be as simple as eeney-meeney-miney-moo, or reading this great hint from ezine.

Of course there are steps that eveyone could follow. Wouldn't life be much easier if we had a check list of the "five things to do" for this and that? Well, the "wedaholic" blog site has a great "five key steps to correctly planning a wedding tent." Now that you have your checklist, life has just gotten easier, right?! :)

And for decorating your tent, you can be as formal as you wish with grand chandeliers, or as country casual as you wish. While dreaming about your decor for your tent, check out this link from BHG.com!

A Cup Of Glee - Weekly Newsletter - Sweetness at the Center

Welcome to the Blog for Fancy That!
We happily call our blog “A Cup of Glee.”
Thank you for stopping by. Enjoy!

This week is all about the center of the table – well, the SWEETNESS at the center of the table. Centerpieces can make or break a tablescape. There is no discussion about that. Centerpieces don't have to be elaborate to be fantastic! At a party we had in April, our centerpieces were mini desserts on a three tiered server.

Here are a few ideas that I love:

I recently came across a company called Candy Spirit. What a unique spin on a well-known candy treat. These candy centerpieces run from below $21 each to well above that - and are fun to look at. Talk about "eye candy" :)

Topiaries, Towers, Truffles:

And as Truffel Sensations says on their web site:

"All the truffle centers are made with Callebaut white, milk, or dark chocolate as per your request and may be additionally flavoured with several choices. The truffle exteriors may be enrobed in your choice of white, milk, or dark chocolate as well. As a result, several flavour combinations are available. Nut free and alcohol free are available as well."

This week's tip? Keep your centerpieces fun and sweet!
